Test Driving Your Used Vehicle

Whether you are test driving the used Canter or used Cube there are some things you should consider.  The Canter is a commercial vehicle that requires a specific type of license for you to drive. It is going to act differently than the Nissan Cube.  The Cube is more like a square SUV for families.  Even though the vehicles are markedly different you still have the same concerns when it comes to Japanese used cars.
First, with any vehicle you test drive you are looking for specific aspects that might be incorrect.  For example alignment of the wheels can hinder the steering, posing a danger for the driver.  Since alignment has already been brought up we will explain how you can test this with a drive.  Your vehicle is supposed to stay in a straight line unless you turn the wheel.  The correct alignment ensures this happens.  However, if something has been misaligned, bent, or altered the vehicle may pull to the left or right.  You can feel this pull when you drive at higher speeds.  Typically you have to go at least 40 miles per hour to feel this difference.  Your other option if you do not feel any pull is to let go of the wheel for a few seconds. Most misalignment appears quickly with the car beginning to veer to the right or left.
Rattles or other noises can be heard during a test drive.  If you know something about automobiles you can try to locate where the rattle is coming from.  It can be something as simple as a loose muffler or something more important.
In a second hand car with a manual transmission like the used Lexus you will want to check the various speeds and the clutch.  A clutch issue will make it hard to change gears without first pumping it to lubricate it.  The stick shift, when the gears are not working properly may become stuck.  In this instance reaching second from first may be a problem, where you have to depress the clutch twice and try changing gears again.  Noises can also be heard if the manual transmission has issues.
There are less important aspects to check on the used Cube or used Canter.  The mechanics are most important, but you also want to make sure the seats move, the windows work, wipers are in good condition, and other aspects of vehicles.  Test drives help you find any problems.
